In psychiatry, screening labs are typically ordered on patients for variety purposes, including to rule out medical causes the psychiatric symptoms, to record baseline data before prescribing medications that may lead to abnormalities, and to screen for general medical problems.
For your convenience, Hawkins Psychiatry offers on-site laboratory services for the following tests:
- Urine toxicology Screen – Our office will request periodic drug urine samples to tests for medication compliance, monitor for illicit drug use or alcohol use or to evaluate drug intoxication or overdose. If you are prescribed a controlled substance, you will tested regularly and sign a controlled substance contract. Controlled substances may be prescribed if you are have been diagnosed with ADHD/ADD, anxiety, insomnia or opioid use disorder.
- Pharmacogenetic testing - Using a buccal (cheek) swab pharmacogenetic testing analyzes clinically important genetic variations which may impact the way you metabolize and response to certain medications used to treat depression, ADHD, anxiety, and other psychiatric conditions.
- Blood Sample testing - Your treating provider may order various testing to detect electrolyte abnormalities, blood chemistry, liver, thyroid or kidney function as well as prescribed medication levels to ensure compliance and non-toxic levels.
- Saliva Oral Swab – Mouth swab drug tests are used as a drug screening tool to detect various substances in your system. Mouth swap test or use the best for detecting, recent drug use. In the event you cannot produce a urine specimen (i.e on dialysis, renal failure) you may be asked to do a mouth swab drug test.
