Why is Neuro Functional Cognitive Testing Important?
Some gradual mental (cognitive) decline is seen with normal aging. For example, the ability to learn new information may be reduced, mental processing slows, speed of performance slows, and ability to become distracted increases. However declines due to normal aging do not affect overall functioning or ability to perform activities of daily living. Normal aging does not affect recognition, intelligence, or long-term memory.
Neuro- functional cognitve assessment, using qEEG and important biomarkers can aid your physician in diagnosing causes of brain dysfunction such as dementia, substance abuse, autism, cognitive decline due TBI or concussion or secondary to depression, ADHD, anxiety or other neurological disorders.
At Hawkins Psychiatry, we use Brainview NeuralScan www.brainview.com neuro-functional assessment as a tool to create a list of possible diagnoses to tailor your treatment plan giving you the best chance of achieving optimal brain function. This testing may be done before you begin a recommended neuromodulation treatment such as rTMS or PrTMS then 3 to 6 months after to compare findings.
In the event the assessment suggest an underlying possible seizure-like activity we can consider a at-home ambulatory 48 to 72 hour EEG .
On what ages can Neuro Functional Cognitive Testing be done?
At Hawkins Psychiatry, we perform neurocognitive testing on ages 16 and older in cases of possible Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, Post Concussion Syndrome or unexplained cognitive difficulties.
